 Basal Body Temperature

 Basal Body Temperature

A kind of body temperature taken in calm condition after a long sleep from 3 to 6 hours is called basal body temperature. This temperature is taken in the rectum, vagina or mouth. This temperature is not influenced by different factors of environment. Most women think that doctors require taking basal body temperature as a usual formality, and basal body temperature does not play any role, however it’s completely wrong opinion.

An English professor founded the method of taking basal body temperature in 1953, and nowadays the method is known as a research method. It is now used along with other tests for functional diagnostics of ovaries. Results are used to create a certain diagram.
In most cases this method is used in gynecology in such cases:
- if the woman hasn't achieved pregnancy for 1 year;
- if there are suspicions of the woman being infertile;
- if the doctor suspects different hormonal changes.
Apart from this, many women take their basal body temperature in case they wish to:
- increase the probability of conception;
- experiment with planning of the child’s gender
Using this method doctors can determine:
- whether the ovule’s ripening is happening, on which days it’s happening, the most dangerous periods can be determined;
- whether the new ovule’s ripening is happening after ovulation;
- endocrine system’s functionality;
- endometritis;
- when will the next menstruation start;
- whether it is pregnancy or a usual delay.

Basal body temperature not only shows the start of ovulation, but also allows discovering different diseases of endocrine system and reproductive system. In order to get accurate information it’s required to take basal body temperature and put them down into the diagram for three menstrual cycles, only in this case an accurate prognosis about the first day of ovulation can be made and the day of conception can be calculated, this process also allows to find out about hormonal dysfunctions. Only a specialist can analyze the changes accurately, the diagram will allow the doctor to determine deviations in the cycle and absence of ovulation, but diagnosing the woman relying only on data from the diagram without prior tests and examinations indicates the doctor’s lack of professionalism. Thus this method is not effective to plan pregnancy or the child’s gender.
