InfertilityIt's usually considered that without applying contraceptives, a pregnancy occurs within one year at 75% of couples (Southam,1960). The “primary infertility” term refers to couples never to have given birth to a child. The “secondary infertility” term refers to couples who had an impregnation, but as of today the pregnancy cannot occur. Approximately 10% of couples suffer from infertility according to a definition “at least one year without applying contraception”.
Infertile couples amount to about 15% of total couples. There are many reasons of infertility. Male and female infertility are used to be estimated as being almost equally spread within a population. The same value (app. 30-35%) refers to mixed types. Principal reasons for female infertility are considered as follows: Endocrine factors – 35-40% Salpingian and peritoneal factors – 20-30% Immunologic factors – 20% Cervical factor –5%. The infertility reason is unidentified in 10-15% of cases.
Infertility / read moreReproductive endocrinologists, the doctors specializing in infertility, consider a couple to be infertile if: the couple has not conceived after 12 months of contraceptive-free intercourse if the female is under the age of 34 the couple has not conceived after 6 months of contraceptive-free intercourse if the female is over the age of 35 (declining egg quality of females over the age of 35 account for the age-based discrepancy as when to seek medical intervention) the female is incapable of carrying a pregnancy to term.
